Dream House ke superstars

Students of Dream House Film Institute are paving their way towards film-craft by entering various state level competition. By making successful entry in 'Comedy Che Superstar', four students Amit, akash, sonam, vikram portrayed applauding acting skills through their skits. This is not the first time that students of Dream House have shone in actig competitions. last year too students made cognizable performances and claimed critics appreciation in various competitions.

As the Director of our institute Amrit Sir, says "Success is preparation meeting opportunity." Students take every result in positive way and work hard to hone their skills and become better performers. What are competitions after all? An opportunity to test your skills and preparing everyday to make it better despite of success or failures. And in that way, by seeing dedication of all the students of the academy inspite of job and busy wok schedule, to keep going with full zest, I can surely say,
these people are "Dream House Ke Superstars!"

A Gala Night

What do we normally do on the weekends? sleep, shop, dine or visit a place. The same options every weekend. How about pursuing a hobby or developing an interest which we had always dreamt of but never plunged in to gain an experience. These are the people who are constant search of something new. DHE is bringing you an opportunity to witness one such new experience. A GALA Night is in making process for a big event consisting dance, drama, music etc. Work has begun and students of DHE are in all zest to entertain the audience.  When I asked these guys what drives you to buy some time from your normal routine and enable you to do something like this, they gave me such answers that made me wonder if these guys are artists or some spiritual masters. I want to mention some of those answers from the students which moved me:

vikram, " Poetry is something which is in my mind 24*7. Whether I am working, dreaming, traveling etc. I think life lies outside your comfort zone. Then you realize, how less human you were yesterday after exploring a new poem today."

Jitesh, " It's not draining task. Actually I look forward to weekend where I can learn something new about me and the craft every weekend. It's all about learning in the end. And I think we are a student first then an employee."

Akash, " Stage is life for me. I feel alive when people laugh at me for being foolish. I am not a serious actor yet I take comedy seriously. And it comes naturally to me."

I was amazed to see such zeal in these people for a small task. May be it seems small to the world, but for them they are doing something new and exploring something different from their mundane life. This reminded me of a very good quote by a renowned film-maker.

"I'm a story teller; that's what exploration is all about. Going to places where others haven't  been and returning to tell a story they haven't heard before."  - James Camerron

10 Tips for a Winning Audition

1. Confidence. It sounds simple but it takes practice. Walk in the door with your held head high. Be wary of shuffling feet. You don't get sympathy points if you're nervous, not feeling well, or having a bad day. Leave it outside the door. You are being sized up the minute you walk in, so practice good posture and body language before you arrive. And don’t forget to smile – that's the lasting impression you want to leave.
2. Personality. Let it shine through. Don’t give one-word answers when having a conversation with the casting director. Ask questions! The industry is looking for smart, curious actors.
3. Connection. Make one with the reader. Memorize the material or be familiar enough with it to maintain eye contact. Knowing the dialogue is important, but making a connection with the reader is what will make the scene natural and believable.
4. Character. Know the character. Read the entire script beforehand to pick-up as many clues as possible. We know about a character by the following:
  • What he/she says about himself/herself
  • What other characters say about him/her
  • What the playwright or screenwriter says about him/her
5. Objective. Go underneath the dialogue. What does he/she want from the other characters? What is the character’s purpose in the scene/story?
6. Obstacle. What's in the way of the character getting what he/she wants? Acting is what happens to you as you TRY to get your objective met, in spite of the obstacle.
7. Opposites. Yelling isn't the only way to show hatred or anger. Sometimes being quiet as you make your point is a powerful display of emotion. Playing opposites is a much more interesting choice than the obvious.
8. Love. Find the love in the scene. Even nasty characters should be likeable on some level. Find a moment in the scene where the love can show through.
9. Act. Acting means TO DO, not to talk. Find your actions and play them! (A wonderful resource is the book “Actions: The Actor’s Thesaurus” by Marina Caldarone & Maggie Lloyd-Williams.)
10. Variety. Feel the levels and dynamic in the scene. Don’t play one emotion. If the character is angry or tough, when might he/she show some vulnerability?
Wannabe? Not you! Interesting, memorable auditions will start to happen for you when you dig into scripts with these thoughts in mind before and during your auditions.
Master your craft! Empower yourself! Enjoy the journey...
